Stuff I Saw … Mariano Rivera. The #Yankees honoured Mo today with a wonderful pre-game ceremony. I’m thrilled for every baseball fan that got to be there in person to celebrate.
In baseball, as in so many things, you rarely get to know who’s going to be truely elite until well after their career is over and that person is either very old or no longer with us. That’s what made this full season of saying farewell to Mo on the eve of his retirement so special - we all got a moment to say thanks for letting us see history unroll before our very eyes.
I consider myself blessed for having seen the greatest closer of all time so many times at SkyDome. I can’t claim to love baseball as much as I do without admitting this. Mariano Rivera is an inspiration. His example is that you can excel while remaining humble and classy, and that by caring for others, while you work hard at achieving your own goals, you get to enjoy the limited time that you get to do the thing that you love. Very cool.
